With the ball in his hand in the ninth inning, George Sherrill has been about as sure a bet as any American League closer this season.
But after Tuesday’s MRI exam, the remainder of his season is anything but certain.
Sherrill was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday evening after the MRI revealed inflammation in his left shoulder. There is no structural damage, but Sherrill’s return is up in the air. Orioles president Andy MacPhail expects Sherrill to rest for a week before he resumes throwing.
“We don’t have any long-term concerns at the present time,” MacPhail said. “It just looks like something that is going to be facilitated by rest.”
